Happy September, Ottawa! We’ve certainly had a fun and productive summer, and we hope you did too. Here’s a quick snapshot of what we’ve been up to since our last update back in June:
In July, we welcomed Megan Monafu as our brand new Artist-in-Residence. A longtime Hubber and founder of CSArt Ottawa, a Community Supported social enterprise for interdisciplinary art, Megan is working to strengthen the relationship with our city’s vibrant arts community. Hub members can find her at Impact Hub Ottawa every week to brainstorm creative team building, facilitation, event planning, or audience experience ideas incorporating arts elements. We can’t wait to see what amazing possibilities are in store when the creative community comes together with social entrepreneurs and changemakers!
Movin’ on Up
The summer season is always a good time for reflection and we kept the creative juices flowing at our Member Town Hall. A great turnout of Hubbers and our extended community partners came together in July to share and discuss ideas for the future of Impact Hub, and how we can continue to do good better in Ottawa and beyond. Among the updates, the most significant was the opportunity to grow our community and expand the Hub space by co-locating with our friends at Community Foundations of Canada in a new downtown location in early 2017. While details are still being worked out, we are excited to take Impact Hub to the next level, and continue to innovate and iterate how we can increase collective impact, along with our vibrant community of creatives, social entrepreneurs, and changemakers. Stay tuned for more details.
Back to School
To round out the summer and get prepped for back-to-school, we hosted Hub & Spoke, our signature semi-annual networking and community showcase on August 31st. This one focused on the myriad of opportunities for continuous learning, professional development, and organizational capacity-building in Ottawa this fall, geared towards increasing social impact. Check out the 15 organizations who presented their upcoming learning programs and events, including Impact Hub’s own Masterclass workshop series for purpose-driven individuals and social impact organizations. Huge thanks to our event partners Invest Ottawa, Kichesippi Beer Co., and Roast’n Brew for their support.
Check out the coverage of this event on Apt613!
We’re not the only ones who’ve been busy – keep an eye out for our upcoming post with a round up of the amazing work Hubbers have been up to this summer. And mark your calendars for a few exciting learning and engagement opportunities coming up at Impact Hub: a kick-off/orientation to the edX/MITx online course u.Lab this Friday, September 9th, a Masterclass workshop on Design Thinking 101 on September 14th, and a special Brown Bag Lunch on Electoral Reform next Thursday, September 15th. We hope to see you at Impact Hub soon!
