Ottawa’s Intersectional Feminist Recovery Plan

Featuring Dr. Valerie Stam & Valérie Assoi

Thursday April 8 @ 12-1 pm

Join Dr. Valerie Stam and Valérie Assoi to discuss a Municipal Gendered Recovery Plan for Ottawa & hear about intersectional feminist responses to COVID-19.

Women and gender-diverse people are disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. We need a real and tangible response from our municipal leaders that responds to this reality. Join Dr. Valerie Stam from the City for All Women Initiative (CAWI) to discuss CAWI’s Municipal Gendered Recovery Plan for Ottawa and hear about intersectional feminist responses to COVID-19 which can re-imagine and re-shape our city.

Valerie Stam is the executive director of the City for All Women Initiative (CAWI) where she works with staff, community partners and residents to advocate for equitable and inclusionary municipal policies and practices. Having worked in West Africa, South Asia, Europe and Canada, Valerie has more than 20 years of experience in local and international development work.

Valérie Assoi is a bridge builder between heterogeneous groups. She holds a master’s in conflict resolution and a bachelor’s in business administration. She is skilful in planning, organizing and managing group dynamics, with ten years of experience in program coordination and community development. A member of l’Assemblée de la francophonie de l’Ontario and of the board of the Mouvement d’implication francophone d’Orléans, Valérie is also an equity and inclusion specialist. She is an elected school board trustee for the French Catholic school board. Valérie has been a member of the CAWI steering committee since 2016 and is now a member of the board.
