About this event:

As Generative AI grows, our relationship to art is moving to a two-tiered system: the artificial, abundant art, and the more precious human-made experience. Music is often seen as an exclusive club, open only to the initiated, the ones who spend 40 hours per day deciphering the lost art of Beethoven, but it doesn’t have to be!

Join Mia in this unique session, where we will create a song live, together, and learn about what it takes to write music. We will also learn about generative AI, its impact on art, and fun ways to appreciate human-made music.

What to expect:

  • Participate in writing a song as a group (no prior music knowledge required)
  • Learn in accessible terms, techniques to appreciate music even more
  • Learn how music writers approach music creation
  • Learn what makes human-music different from generative AI
  • Engage in a deep discussion about the future of art
About Mia:

Software engineer, leader, educator and musician, Mia (they/them) has probably too many hats and not enough heads. With 2 bachelor’s, one in Computer Software and one in Instrumental Music Composition, Mia has been working in the software automation industry for 7 years now, and is working on AI tools that are built for humans, not to replace them. They are also member of multiple bands, ranging from jazz, pop, to indie. Throughout their software years, Mia never stopped composing music, from writing solo music to creating soundtracks for local theatre.

More recently, Mia has focused their attention on promoting human-first music by teaching in a light-hearted tone ways to appreciate music even more. Doing so in accessible terms, and without you having to pay thousands of dollars in grad school.

Follow them on their YouTube channel “Penguin Astronaut Music”, in which they may or may not be wearing ridiculous costumes and arguing with the sweet dog Moka.
