Immigration is vital for Canada’s economic growth, yet newcomers face a multitude of challenges that hinder their ability to contribute — chief among them: learning the necessary skills to grow their career or business in this digital-first world.
The Newcomer Toolkit for Business & Work
February 17 - March 17, 2021. Registration closes Feb 16.
Built in collaboration with impact-driven stakeholders and grassroots leaders in entrepreneurship, community impact and government, this program includes a series of four workshops, plus wraparound supports that don’t stop when the last event does.
You’ll learn from seasoned professionals, including newcomers like you, who’ll help you gain the digital skills you need to grow your career or start your business, through practical, skill-building workshops.
This is more than just a workshop series.
By participating in The Newcomer Toolkit, you'll also get access to coaching, and long-term, guided learning through a *free* three-month membership to Impact Hub Ottawa, a local community and coworking space (details below).
Who can join
To join The Newcomer Toolkit, you should be:
- A Permanent Resident, Refugee or Protected Person in Canada for less than five years (note: we have limited spaces available for newcomers who do not meet this criteria)
- A resident of Ontario
- Comfortable communicating in English at a CLB level 6 or higher.
Note: Closed Captioning support in English may be available upon request. Please indicate your preferences in the order form and we will be in touch.
How this works
When you sign-up for The Newcomer Toolkit, you will be registered for:
- four interactive workshops - choose whether to attend on Wednesdays (6-8pm) or Fridays (9-11am)
- access to one-on-one coaching
- one virtual showcase, connecting you to service providers in Eastern Ontario
- 3-month free Virtual Membership with Impact Hub Ottawa*
*Redeemable upon completion of final survey
Note: Each workshop is two hours long, except week one, which is 2.5 hours. Workshops take place once a week, for four weeks.
Important: You get to decide when you want to join these workshops — either every Wednesday, OR every Friday. Both sessions are identical!
After the workshops, join a Virtual Support Showcase on March 17th, where you’ll put your networking skills into practice and meet with newcomer support providers from across the region. This is your chance to ask questions and network with folks who can help you continue to grow your business or career.
